Sweet balloons by Hans-Olav Forsang

€45.00

March 2025

During the six years of work with Sweet Balloons, the photographer Hans-Olav Forsang has been through a period of serious and life-threatening illness. How does the view of the surroundings change and how is this shown in the images after being confronted with a real fear of losing one's life? How do you capture the world around you in a situation where the normal life has collapsed and you, in a way, have to understand life anew?

Sweet Balloons has a personal approach, where the nature of the content is to reproduce the world around us in the form of small everyday abstractions of simple and very common objects such as people, birds, dogs, trees, stones, landscapes, water, sky etc. The images are subtle yet transformative, most often studies of stillness that exude mystery, beauty and sometimes danger, scenes that can seem unreal despite the concrete content of the images. The photographer makes use of his background and experience as a documentary photographer, but here with freer conditions.

The photographs in this book were made between 2018 and 2024.
