Like a story about us by David Aasen

€25.00

April 2025

From the day his first daughter was born in August 2018, David Aasen has taken photos of her at home, on the playground, on travels, at family gatherings, to present close-ups of ordinary situations, capturing the everyday life of a small child. When her sister was born in May 2021, the project expanded to the exploration of new family dynamics, and as the sisters grew older together, Aasen continued photographing them from day to day, revealing situations of cooperation, care, jealousy, imagination, imitation and play.

In spite of having a strictly personal starting point, Like a story about us has evolved into an investigation of the formative years of every child, and both children and adults will find the themes and moods in these photographs familiar. The book will make us question the early years of our lives, as it stresses the importance of freedom, play and creativity at the very beginning of our journey into adulthood.

Like a story about us includes a new essay on childhood written by the Norwegian author Birger Emanuelsen.
