For 28 years, Raymond Mosken photographed Norway from end to end, shooting from light aircraft and helicopters. His goal was always to maintain a deeply personal approach, constantly seeking out the small events that are only discovered if one looks closely enough. He was committed to doing more than simply relying on the aerial perspective to provide inherent interest; he sought to explore his subjects deeply enough to ensure the images conveyed a richer narrative and possessed a distinct visual quality.
The project’s core concept was to capture human activity in Norway from the air over the course of many years. In doing so, he was able to comment on and reveal aspects of our existence from a unique vantage point - one far removed from the perspective of a modern drone. Ultimately, the project is about human interaction and living conditions - about the human experience itself.
The images speak to social conditions, local housing, industries, architecture, industrial history, infrastructure, agriculture, maritime activities, work, leisure, sports, renewal, and societal challenges - covering a broad spectrum of themes.
For nearly fifty years Raymond Mosken has been a quiet yet vital voice in the Norwegian photographic community. His work has primarily focused on long-term projects; he has held numerous exhibitions across Norway and published several books.
